Juka @ 高田馬場AREA

It's late, I'm tired, and I have to get up at half past six tomorrow morning, but if I don't write something now I'll probably end up not writing anything at all.

Going to Takadanobaba today took foreveeer. I was 50 minutes delayed because of various train issues. I knew Juka wasn't going to appear until late anyway, so I wasn't worried about missing him, but it's still annoying waiting around various train lines and I wanted to see the band with Secilia Luna members.

Got to AREA while the first band was still playing. Don't know who they were, and the second band didn't introduce themselves, though I think they might have been Gigolo + one of the session bands. The third band was impossible not to recognize -__- I hadn't seen Anti Feminism before, but had heard enough about Kenzi (vocals) to know I'd rather avoid them. And sure enough; the guy draws a knife and starts cutting his own stomach. He also used a splintered piece of wood for the same purpose, and set fire to his arm. On the bright side(?) Shizuki, Art Cube's drummer is in this band as well. So I spent most of the set looking at him rather than the scarred and bleeding man running around in front of him.

Juka and the rest of the Initial D guys did a good set today :) Again lots of D songs (including the D flags), as well as the two new songs. My favourite is written by Ryo (guitar). It's fast paced, with good oppourtunities for gyakudai, and since thrusting yourself against the stage is lots of fun, it's a really enjoable song. (Especially at AREA, because that livehouse understands what a proper barrier should be like. It's well padded, and really thick, so it's quite comfortable compared to a lot of places). The other song is written by Juka. The beginning sounds exactly like Zephyrus. And he goes on to sing some very high notes during this song, nothing wrong with his range. (The ending is all falsetto). Juka wanted to write a song called "Initial D" too, but there wasn't enough time. Maybe it'll end up as part of a coming project?

(And we're back to leopard print again x) He has new pants though; lighter and without the glitter)

Wow, the Anti Feminism set sounds so creepy. What's their music like? I've always wondered and keep forgetting to check them out >.>

And hsdfkj I hope Juka releases something soon.

I haven't heard any of Anti Feminism's music other than what they played last night, which sounded noisy because of Kenzi's constant screaming. There are probably both live versions and studio versions of their songs available on youtube for some quick sampling.

Juka looked really happy last night, and it's good to know he's writing music again :)

Oh, that's good! He's been seeming kind of down.

Poor you and those train issues. ;~; I woke up to a bunch of texts about how you were probably going to end up in hicksville, Japan, because of the transportation issues. Sounds like you got home in one piece, though. ^^

Whyyyyyyyyyy do some bandfolk insist on hurting themselves like that? I know they do it for the shock factor, but damn. O_o

Do you recall if Juka sings the same set of D songs at every live, or does he change them around a bit? And by the sound of it (this being the last session + new songs + new pants), he's well on his way to planning something. :D Hope to hear some solid news from him soon. ^^

Thanks bunches for the update!

I live in hicksville -__-; For once, getting home turned out to be easier than getting to the live. But as long as I'm not late for the bands I want to see, it doesn't matter that much.

I know! I felt sorry for the man's body. It looked like it had been through a lot of lives like this <_< Juka sang the same D songs as last week, + one more? I was going to ask him for a set list, but his set ended so late there wasn't any time D: But yeah, new pants must definitely be a good sign, right? x)

Ahhh I remember. x__x; Well, it's a familiar kind of hicksville, right? Not someplace you've never winded up in before, with only the stars to guide you back home. XD;

Did you happen to read his latest yaplog/mixi entries yet? I'm not sure what to to make of the announcement since it sounds like both a good thing and a bad thing at the same time. Also, considering the new songs he's been working on, it doesn't make sense for him to suddenly decide to disappear completely... again.

I wouldn't be too worried about his blog entry. Sure, it's the last session for a while (He made sure to point this out, cause there's been several "last sessions" ^^; ) and "Juka" might disappear. But give him some time to work on what he's currently got going on, and I'm sure we'll see more of him soon enough. (Keep in mind that it might end up being a secret reappearance, so as to have a "fresh start")
Btw, the only place I've gotten the "he's leaving forever" feeling is on places like lj. Here (in Japan) people seem to be more "The last session was fun! :D Looking forward to seeing you again!". No tears shed at the live.

Sometimes I think google translate/babelfish and rikaichan are against us, because that's where most of the "brb leaving forever disappearing into eternity, sayounara" stuff is coming from. I can't look at the mixi entry so I don't know how much it differs from his yaplog one but it made me nervous when I stumbled upon it. (I dunno, I thought maybe he wrote something he didn't want to say at the live about not coming back for a while.) But what you say makes more sense, especially when you take into account all the stuff he said before - about really wanting to pursue music (IIRC). It was just... weird and sudden and cryptic, I guess. It caught a lot of us off-guard. ^^;

Thanks for the reassurance. ^__^

You know...thinking about it backwards...I'm kinda sad that Juka decided to do the washing up of his full closet of leopard printed clothes just on the day when I saw him >.<
I like leopard printed clothes ^^;

When I saw Kenzi last year at the RockMayKan he emptied a whole box of pins on his head and threw some in the audience before breaking a neon tube on his head (with his teeth ?)...turned back home with pins under my boots >.>;

Hope school started again gently !

You were one of the lucky few who got to see something other than leopard print :p Appreciate it x)

He broke something against his head at this live too (wan't close enough to see what it was made of), and staff had to go through the room cleaning up the pieces when their set was over. Wonder if livehouses get some sort of warning when this guy decides to play somewhere.

Kenzi is a little mad, isn't he ^^'
I'd love to see him live though.

Juka's Yaplog entry got me worried, on Mixi he's writing in another way though so... let's wait what will happen?
It seems a good thing though that he posted a new entry and kind of starts to have a name though *laughs*
He didn't mention anything about "leaving" at the live, did he?
And personally I surely won't complain about leopard print. I like it!

But I don't like the risk of getting the man's blood in my face :p

To quote him: "This is the last session live. This time it's really the last SESSION live." He kept including the word "session", and never phrased it as "last live". (Same goes for both of his blogs)
I've been through the whole "Juka is leaving the music scene" thing before, and seen how the fans react to something like that. This live was nothing like that at all; everyone (fans and Juka) were smiling and having a great time.

(And I don't really hate leopard print. It's kind of an inside joke with friends ^^; )

There's water to wash it off again ;D

Great to hear! Can't wait to hear something of him again~
It would have been nice anyway if he had done some CD. People are talking about how his voice inproved, but except of those who can go to the lives no one has heard of that so far. He should show it to the fans who can't come to watch him as well~

Haha, because he always seems to wear the same clothes?

did you have a nice easter in Japan?
