Been a while...

Been a busy month @_@ Hadn't been able to go to Tokyo for a couple of weeks, so I enjoyed the trip to Shinjuku today. Finally got to check out the new Pure Sound store there, which looked promising. They had some really random stuff that I haven't seen in any of the other vk stores in that neighbourhood, and some of the rare CDs were cheaper than at Closet Child.

Not too happy about having to walk through Kabukicho, but that's were the live house is so what can you do....

For being a live at HOLIDAY, quite a few people showed up. But I guess both Moran and the guy from Mucc who had a session band tonight, are fairly popular. The good thing about being a fan of the smaller band is that you never have to fight much for a good spot. Though today turned out to be one of those events where people won't really allow an organized saizen for the first couple of bands. Fortunately I found a girl who agreed to give me her spot for THE VELVET (first band playing) before the "no claiming of places today D:" people came by. But I don't think even half of the row actually cared about the band. Bera (guitar) threw his guitar pick into the back. A girl picked it up and came to the front asking everyone who'd been standing in front of Bera if they wanted it, but no one did (>_<)
Oh well, they did a long set :D Just like at their last live earlier this month, they played for about 30 minutes. I hope this means they'll continue doing so at future events. Going all the way to Tokyo for less than 15 minutes of music is.... a lot of travelling for only 15 minutes <_< I should have asked them if they have any plans for their next release... They have so many great songs that so far are live only. (Don't know how many people care. Are there any fans at all among you people overseas? ^^; I feel like I'm rambling about this band no one's ever heard of every time I mention them here. It seems like a lot of people are unaware that the guys from Velvet Eden sort of continued the band after the more popular members like Dada, Kalm and Hora left. I'll just keep promoting them here in the hopes that more people will at least notice them (‘ロ‘)
Anyway, long set, BUT! no "Ride On Me" (゚Д゚) That's like a Versailles live without The Red Carpet Day, or Kaya not doing Rose Jail. It just doesn't happen! Except it... did, tonight D: That was disappointing, but I guess the rest of the set, and that fact that I was having a blast sort of made up for it. Maybe. (As long as they don't skip this song next week too).

I feel like I complained more than usually about this live. But I really did have a great time! It was Velvet's first time playing at HOLIDAY, and they looked more comfortable on stage than usual too (Well, MiMi never comes off as shy). I've had trouble making eye contact with Bera before, he's always starring at the ceiling or the walls or whatever, but he was like a completely different person at this live. He even came out to talk after they were done playing :D (Usually it's just MiMi sitting all by himself at the merch table for several hours. Seems like a boring job, but I appreciate how he's making it so easy for fans who'd like to chat or simply say hello)

(hpoor unwanted guitar pick T_T)

In other news; I need to write a haiku and a tanka by Thursday D: I know nothing about writing old style Japanese poems. I also seem to be coming down with something, which is weird, cause I never catch colds. Wonder if it'll be gone by the morning. Not a good time to get sick.

Well, I have to admit that I like their "Seijaku no Umi" which is originally Velvet Eden's "Kanashimi no Bara Shouzoku".
In fact, Velvet Eden almost died for me after Kalm left the band. I kept listening to them just because of Dada's magnifique voice.
For me, The Velvet is just a_bunch_of_people_who_worked_with_great_genius_Dada.

I think their music improved a lot after MiMi took over on vocals after Reina, but unfortunately most of these new songs are the ones that haven't been released yet.

A lot of the reason why I became a fan of The Velvet is because of the live experience. I didn't care all that much about their music (had only heard the older songs), until I came across them at a live last year. I never attended Velvet Eden's lives, so I can't really compare them, but although I like VE's music a lot, I think Velvet's new rock sound might appeal to me more when it comes to lives (I like the oppourtunity to headbang, jump etc.)

I would have loved to been there. To see The velvet and 2nd effect live would have been a fantasy~

And I'll be happy to join you for one of Velvet's lives whenever you get the chance to attend one :)

I'm listening to some of their older stuff on Youtube right now and it's pretty cool. ^-^ When did MiMi start participating as their vocalist? I haven't yet listened to anything off Ride On Me.

Oh, wait... THEIR MYSPACE HAS SAMPLES :D Myspace to the rescue again.

Andandand I wish I could help you with that poetry. D= I could attempt something but I doubt it would make much sense. It's kinda cool how you can say so much more in a Japanese Haiku than you can in an English one, though. ^^ Japanese is pretty awesome like that.

Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

MiMi became the vocalist a bit more than 4 years ago, but they didn't release anything with the new line-up until last summer (the Ride On Me single). They had a bit of an activity pause before that.
(edit: He was always in the band, but he used to play bass. They currently have a support bassist at lives).

lol, that's an excellent haiku :D Though I think it works better in English. And in situations where I'm not supposed to present it to a teacher who seems to have no sense of humor. orz
It shall go in my portifolio though x) As an English example together with whatever Japanese nonsense I'll manage to come up with. Will credit! <3

Ahhh there's something else I haven't been keeping up with! Good to know! ^__^ It's been a while, then, since they released anything new. O_o

Ack, I didn't come up with that Haiku, though. ^^;;; It's a fun one that a lot of people have memorized here because it's so random, and you can find it on t-shirts and bumper stickers and related stuff.

But here's a set of F-Zero ones a nerdy friend of mine came up:

Lightning fast races,
No boost until second lap,
It's you, Black Shadow!

You'd better not blink!
I'm snaking through Mute City!
Am I a cheater?

This game has great tunes,
The Doc's is my favorite,
Aeropolis, too!

F-Zero haikus;
An explanation why
Girls will never date me.

Aw man. X'D

I have an idea for another one (Versailles-related, lol) but I'll have to twitter it since I gotta run to class in a sec~

They were quiet for so long, people thought they were a new band when they finally resumed activities in 2008 ^^;

ah, haha. But I can still include it as a "a friend sent me this haiku that's a common print on t-shirts in America" kind of thing x) We can put whatever we want in that portifolio as long as it's somewhat related to the past year of our life (There's going to be a lot of concert tickets and band flyers to fill up empty pages at the end of the semester)

How does one get the idea to sit down and make F-Zero haikus? (。_゜) lol. Have fun in class~

Poor guys! It must be horrible if no one wants your guitar pick, not even just to be polite.
Apr. 29th, 2009 03:39 am (UTC)
At least it made it pretty easy for me to get it, being the only one who showed any interest. But the people standing around me still took part in a lot of the furi, so it wasn't that obvious that they weren't fans (though I'm still the only one who does that waving of arms thing during Bera's guitar solos. I feel like someone should, even if I feel stupid doing it all by myself ^^; )

I'm sure more people will come next week, as we'll be back at AREA then :)
