Feel like it's time to give THE VELVET some acknowledgment now, as I've seen them three or so times since I last wrote about them.
Unfortunately THE VELVET's live ended up on the same day as the rescheduled celebration of Mana's birthday. And since Velvet were supposed to be playing at 18:50 at Shinjuku HOLIDAY, there was no possible way for me to make it to both them and Moi dix Mois in Shibuya. In the end I chose to go support Velvet; my presence certainly makes a bigger difference for them than for Moi dix Mois. Though I was a bit sad this would probably be the last chance I'd have to be frontrow for MdM now that the fanclub seems to be closing down. (Nothing has been officially announced yet, but people are unable to renew memberships, and FC reservation for the upcoming live is not possible). But most of all I was worried for the ticket of a friend that was reserved in my name. But thankfully, bringing my ID card and ticket confirmation email, she could get the tickets anyway. So I could enjoy Velvet's live with a better conscious.
It was a long wait though. I arrived in Shinjuku a little before noon. Doors would open half an hour later, and the live would start at 1pm. Which meant more than seven hours spent waiting. But I came prepared and brought both food and stuff to keep me occupied. Every now and then a familiar face would show up too, so all in all the wait wasn't as bad as it could have been. Although things were about 20 minutes delayed. I think one of the bands may have cancelled? The order of the band wasn't as it should be towards the middle of the event, and Velvet ended up appearing closer to 19:10.
I was hoping they would do a good live so my wait, and especially missing Moi dix Mois, would be somewhat worth it. And they really pulled it together for this live! They were carefully checking the rhythm between themselves, and played an excellent set, so I'm happy. The only bad thing was that there's a bit of a gap between the stage and the frontrow at this venue, but that had nothing to do with the guys' performance.
Despite what MiMi told us, the band members did not turn into cute white kittens over the past couple of weeks... But there was another slight image change. Those of you who care probably know by now, but since I didn't mention it here yet; Bera now has pink hair, with black lower layers. Quite a change! It does fit the make-up, and I guess the colour shouldn't be that much of a surprise - He's used it in costumes before, and being a fuchsia shade, it's fairly common in punk fashion. (And I was already warned before he appeared with it on stage for the first time last month by a friend). I loved his black hair, but if he wants to do pink that's cool too :)
Yesterday's support members were Mai and Hizuru/You. I'm starting to get used to the latter now, but was happy to hear Chiro will most likely play bass at the live next week ^^ I hope to get the chance to talk to Hizuru eventually though. Since by now it's obvious we'll continue seeing eachother quite often, I'd like to get to know him a bit better. Yesterday he got a chance to do a bass solo as they played "kurutta yoru ni" again (It's one of the songs they haven't played much lately). Other songs they did were SORROW, seijaku, Cinderella, aizou, and Victor. They had a little less time on stage than usual but, just as MiMi promised, they still managed to do six songs :D (It would be kinda sad waiting so long and only getting three or so ^^; ) And they were mostly fun songs with lots of furi like headbanging, sakudai, gyakudai and jumping. So I'm really happy with the show they put together despite missing out on Moi dix Mois.
As soon as THE VELVET were done, I did however head over to Shibuya to meet up with other friends there. And got the 10th anniversary photobook Moi dix Mois were doing a presale of. It's naturally mostly focused on Mana, but has several live photos of the entire band (and a couple of small pics of the old line-up) as well as a couple of pages devoted to each individual member.
Not many new pictures, but it's a nice collection for someone like me who don't collect all their pamphlets. And I didn't double check, but I think I recognize some of the pics from Madousho. So that'll be something extra for those who aren't fanclub members.
Their next live is on August 21st at duo music exchange in Shibuya :)
